Inside Kung Fu Article July 2008 Edition

Curious if anyone else has gotten the new Inside Kung Fu Magazine and read the article by Michael Miller on the CKF?

He has a featured 5 page Article, and it goes into the CKF and Sean Kelley, touches quickly on a few organizations, and individuals, but is really a highlight on the CKF and what they are doing. Has a few picture technique lines, and a couple other shots showing Dave Hebler, Sean Kelley, Michael Miller, and a Brown Belt who I dont know. I didn't really read anything I didn't already know, but I thought it was interesting to see a Kenpo article in the magazine, even though this one seemed a bit more to me to be a recruitment article then most of the usual articles in that magazine.

I know many here have less then fond feelings for Sean Kelley and the CKF, but I thought that was a pretty decent advertisement to get in a magazine.

I am curious how many of those magazines are sold every month, and how many new students they get out of that.

Thanks for the information. I remember Michael mentioning it awhile back I'll get one and read.

You could ask on KN about this thought, that is where they would answer you.

Re: Inside Kung Fu Article July 2008 Edition

I have quite buying that magazine for a while, after reading enough iron crotch and no touch knock out articles to last a life time I have considered my $5.00 best spent elsewhere.

I did however go see this on the news stand based upon the reccomendation of a friend. After sorting through pages of guys in leapord fur trimmed kung fu uniforms and self defense articles with chopsticks I found it.

I was dissapointed that this article had no real content. Nothing based on priciples, concepts, or real applications. It was simply explaining the CKF, the "Alliance" and their take on what American kenpo was and is going to be. In my opinion it was all filler and no thriller.

So I went and put the magazine back on the shelf, stopped by the comic book rack, picked up the latest issue of the Captain America and the New Avengers and figured my $6.00 was much better spent. (The Skrulls are invading the Earth by the way if anyone cares!)

They are already here!!!! They have taken over and replaced half of the Avengers and our government! Damn shapeshifters! Much more interesting a read then the latest flavor of kenpo kool aid being served in an article.

     Dan,

Cool about your shooter. As far as the money goes donate it to Nick, he is the one giving us a location to talk freely and "enjoy or not" the discussions. I am so impressed with his efforts and the way things have progressed I think I'll have to donate to him. I am going to drop $25 on him today, you can do it easily if you have a paypal account.

The article is directly after an article about a kung-fu fighting panda....take it for what it is

The thing that kills me about these mags is that occasionally there is some good stuff in there...once a decade maybe...they actually had an article about Chen Pan Ling and his training methods...he was a bad mofo back in the day from the different things I have read about him, but of course the title of the article was "Internal Secrets" or something or other...Sad

I really hope you guys use as much time perfecting your own kenpo, as you do bad mouthing others'. I see more crap talking about other arts and other kenpoists on here, than i actually see people asking questions and trying to figure out their own art. Kinda makes me wonder... I am not saying i am in favor of the person you are relating the picture to or not, im just sick of kenpoists spending more time working out their finger tips on these forums than hearing about them actually working out.

For the sake of discussion...do you really need to "hear" about me working out to know I worked out? My opinion is usually the ones who talk the most about working out are the ones not doing the work.

Re: Inside Kung Fu Article July 2008 Edition

     Jeff,

Most of the folks who hang here do so more for the fun or morbidity of it, and the ability to be able to say what they want to say and hear how it is said, by others.  Take all the local current brouhaha for instance.  Clyde pisses off some folks, and pleases others... To others, he is smack in the middle of an indifference pattern.  Everyone has their own independent thought processes here, and more often than not, that can lead to discussion and disagreement.  We try not ot let those things bother us, most of the time.  We are not all, always, successful, but this is where you come, I think, if you have thick enough skin and your really red and black belted ego doesn't need stroking.

When you boil it all down, this forum has no really high expectations.  It is known that most people are too civilized to be in here, because it is beneath them to type the "F" word. (and ya know what I mean)...

This place will, essentially, seperate the people who are highly civilized, from those who may not be quite so highly civilized... This doesn't make one better or worse than the other... Just different.  It also begs the question, "Can you influence a great number of people with your writing, wit, and logic?"
